SUMMARY:Maple Volunteer Training Day
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time of year again! It’s early January… and here at the MacKenzie Center we’re already thinking about spring and maple sugaring season! \nEach year we welcome over 1\,200 participants to the Maple Program. We owe that success to dedicated volunteers who contribute thousands of hours to teach and bring this program to life each spring! \nHave you ever wanted to learn how to collect and cook sap and finish it into syrup? This year is your chance! The Maple Program is a great volunteer opportunity to be a part of! \nThe MacKenzie Center needs volunteers in numerous positions; maple guide\, interpreter\, syrup maker and finisher. No previous experience is necessary. Training will be provided. \nThe Maple Program dates for 2019 are Tuesdays\, Wednesdays\, and Thursdays the duration of the month of March (and possibly the last week in February). Volunteers are needed each day for morning and afternoon shifts. \nPlease email Christopher.Tall@wisconsin.gov or call (608) 635-8112 to confirm your participation this year! This helps us greatly with the planning process and gives us an idea of how many groups we can accommodate. \nIf you know of anyone who might be interested in volunteering to be a maple guide\, interpreter\, syrup maker or finisher\, please feel free to forward them this information. \nPlease “Save the Date” on your calendar for our Maple Program Training Day. \nMaple Program Training Day \nThursday\, February 14th\, 2019  \n9:00am-3:00pm \nMacKenzie LODGE building \nALL maple education volunteers new and seasoned are invited! \nAn overview\, goals and objectives\, specific training for returning & new volunteers for the maple program will be covered this day.

SUMMARY:Learn to be a Wildlife Area Docent/Volunteer Naturalist
DESCRIPTION:Dear MacKenzie Center Friends and Volunteers\, \nWe have a great opportunity for anyone wanting to get more involved at the MacKenzie Center! \nThe MacKenzie Center Wildlife Team is seeking docents/volunteer naturalists for the summer season.  We would like to offer hands-on activities to visitors on Saturday afternoons at the MacKenzie Center. We hope to provide enhanced learning opportunities about the animals that are part of Wisconsin’s ecological community.  Docents will be stationed in the wildlife area with artifacts such as pelts and skulls to engage and educate guests. \nThough we are open to your input in shaping the program\, no experience is necessary as all docents/volunteer naturalists will need to participate in our training and orientation program.  What we do require is willingness to initiate interaction with children\, teens and adults\, the ability to work outside in summer weather\, and availability approximately once per month from 12-2pm on Saturdays in June\, July\, August\, and perhaps September. \nOrientation will be held Saturday\, June 2nd from 10am-1pm. Please meet in the Badger Den! \nIf you have any questions or are interested in volunteering please email Steve Ruscko\, Wildlife Technician\, at Steven.Ruscko@wisconsin.gov.  Steve\, one of the recent additions to the wildlife team\, is formerly the assistant curator at the Racine Zoo and will be coordinating this program.  He (and the rest of the team) is excited for the engagement that it can provide our guests – but only with your help!

SUMMARY:Learn to Teach Pond Study
DESCRIPTION:We’re looking for volunteers to help with educational programs at the MacKenzie Center.  If you love kids and nature\, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.  By attending this session you’ll learn the curriculum the MacKenzie Center staff has developed to help share the wonder of our pond and all that lives in and near it.  Then you can help when a group visits MacKenzie and is interested in this program.  If you can’t attend the training\, but are interested email Chris Tall to arrange a separate training.  Training to teach Geocaching (August 22\, 1 – 3 pm)\, Wildlife Tours and Museum Tours (August 24\, 9 am – noon)\, and Survival Skills — Shelter and Fire Building (August 24\, 1 – 3 pm) is also available.
