SUMMARY:Make-up Work Day (if cancelled on April 17)
DESCRIPTION:Dear MacKenzie Friends and Volunteers\,\n\n\n\n\n\n\nResending this work day request from this past February when we had to cancel due to weather. \n\nIf you have been around the property this past Fall you would’ve seen a lot of trees and brush cleared by MacKenzie Staff\, area DNR support and forestry contract workers (check out the bison road fence line).  The Friends and volunteers supported contracted invasive cork tree removal earlier last year and we want to have a work day to keep the clean-up efforts moving – plus we have a few more in-kind work hours needed to fulfill our contribution goal with the Center’s forestry grant .\n\nWe have schedule Wednesday April 17th and a weather alternate Thursday April 18th – meet at the finishing house\, 9:00am. We will be loading out brush and blocked logs\, mostly for the burn pile and will likely need two chain saw operators to cut brush and size logs for handling. If we get enough volunteers Steven will try to get a second dump trailer to improve the work flow. Lunch will be around 12:30. Dress for the weather.\n\nPLEASE PLAN ON JOINING US and be sure you reply Don Lucke (luckedon@gmail.com) for Both Date’s availability so he can keep you informed and confirm the date.\n\n\n\nThanks for all your support.

SUMMARY:Work Day April 17 -- Cork Wood and Brush Removal
DESCRIPTION:Dear MacKenzie Friends and Volunteers\,\n\n\n\n\n\nResending this work day request from this past February when we had to cancel due to weather. \n\nIf you have been around the property this past Fall you would’ve seen a lot of trees and brush cleared by MacKenzie Staff\, area DNR support and forestry contract workers (check out the bison road fence line).  The Friends and volunteers supported contracted invasive cork tree removal earlier last year and we want to have a work day to keep the clean-up efforts moving – plus we have a few more in-kind work hours needed to fulfill our contribution goal with the Center’s forestry grant .\n\n\nWe have schedule Wednesday April 17th and a weather alternate Thursday April 18th – meet at the finishing house\, 9:00am. We will be loading out brush and blocked logs\, mostly for the burn pile and will likely need two chain saw operators to cut brush and size logs for handling. If we get enough volunteers Steven will try to get a second dump trailer to improve the work flow. Lunch will be around 12:30. Dress for the weather.\n\nPLEASE PLAN ON JOINING US and be sure you reply to Don Lucke (luckedon@gmail.com) for Both Date’s availability so he can keep you informed and confirm the date.\n\n\n\nThanks for all your support.

SUMMARY:Maple Volunteer Training Day
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time of year again! It’s early January… and here at the MacKenzie Center we’re already thinking about spring and maple sugaring season! \nEach year we welcome over 1\,200 participants to the Maple Program. We owe that success to dedicated volunteers who contribute thousands of hours to teach and bring this program to life each spring! \nHave you ever wanted to learn how to collect and cook sap and finish it into syrup? This year is your chance! The Maple Program is a great volunteer opportunity to be a part of! \nThe MacKenzie Center needs volunteers in numerous positions; maple guide\, interpreter\, syrup maker and finisher. No previous experience is necessary. Training will be provided. \nThe Maple Program dates for 2019 are Tuesdays\, Wednesdays\, and Thursdays the duration of the month of March (and possibly the last week in February). Volunteers are needed each day for morning and afternoon shifts. \nPlease email Christopher.Tall@wisconsin.gov or call (608) 635-8112 to confirm your participation this year! This helps us greatly with the planning process and gives us an idea of how many groups we can accommodate. \nIf you know of anyone who might be interested in volunteering to be a maple guide\, interpreter\, syrup maker or finisher\, please feel free to forward them this information. \nPlease “Save the Date” on your calendar for our Maple Program Training Day. \nMaple Program Training Day \nThursday\, February 14th\, 2019  \n9:00am-3:00pm \nMacKenzie LODGE building \nALL maple education volunteers new and seasoned are invited! \nAn overview\, goals and objectives\, specific training for returning & new volunteers for the maple program will be covered this day.
