SUMMARY:First Day of Maple Program
DESCRIPTION:Students and groups will begin coming to MacKenzie to learn the biology of maple trees and the history of tapping the trees to obtain sap to make into sugar and syrup.  Groups will have the opportunity to tap a tree and even get a taste of pure “MacKenzie Gold” at the end of the tour.  Tours of approximately 2 hrs. are offered in the morning and afternoon every Tuesday\, Wednesday\, and Thursday in March.  The first day to call in for reservations is Feb. 1 at 7:15 am\, first come\, first served.

SUMMARY:Friends of MacKenzie Fall Festival
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy the beauty of fall at the MacKenzie Center.  This family friendly event will give you a chance to participate in some of the many activities available at MacKenzie including archery\, air guns\, compass skills and geocaching\, wildlife tours\, fire building\, hiking\, and studying the plant and critter life in our pond.  In addition you can learn about (and touch) real furs and skulls\, cut a “wood cookie” using a two-person crosscut saw\, make leaf and wildlife track pressings and try other crafts.  Come in costume (if you like) and participate in some of our seasonal activities — pumpkin painting\, a hay bale maze\, gunny sack races\, face painting\, scarecrow making\, hayrides\, and more!  The Rio HS Band plays at 11 am and the Prairie Thunder Cloggers dance at 1 pm.  The $10/vehicle admission covers all activities.  Food and gift shop items will be available at an additional cost.  Come for an hour or plan to stay all day\, there’s something for everyone!  All proceeds stay at the MacKenzie Center to support the facility and its programs!

DESCRIPTION:We will be splitting and re-stacking wood to the Maple storage bunker and for storage at the Lodge.\n Meet at the wood splitting area (across from the handicap parking lot) on Saturday October 8th at 8:30 AM.(rain date 10/15). Once again we will need two or three wood splitters loaned – very much appreciated. Please reply to Don Lucke (heartshare@centurytel.net) if you can join us and also indicate if you plan on supplying your wood splitter – The more the merrier on this work day. Dress safe and for the weather.

DESCRIPTION:Steven is locating downed limbs and previously bucked wood that we will be collecting and dropping off at the splitting area. This will be hard and soft wood for the lodge and Maple program.\n Meet at the Finishing House on Tuesday Sept 27\, 8:30 AM. DESCRIPTION:Our September Friends of MacKenzie Board meeting will be held in the Badger Den at 6:30 pm.  Board meetings are open to all and we hope that by holding this one in the evening\, some of our members who can’t make our usual morning meeting time may be able to join us.  We’d love to have more input from the membership and we hope that some of you may consider joining the Board after you have a chance to see what our meetings are like.  Light refreshments will be served.  Hope to see you then!  If this goes well\, we are considering having an evening meeting once each quarter with our annual meeting (Thursday\, January 19\, 2017) being the next opportunity.  Send an email to friendsofmackenzie@gmail.com if you have any questions.
