SUMMARY:Friends of MacKenzie Fall Festival
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy the beauty of fall at the MacKenzie Center.  This family friendly event will give you a chance to participate in some of the many activities available at MacKenzie including archery\, air guns\, compass skills and geocaching\, wildlife tours\, fire building\, hiking\, and studying the plant and critter life in our pond.  In addition you can learn about (and touch) real furs and skulls\, cut a “wood cookie” using a two-person crosscut saw\, make leaf and wildlife track pressings and try other crafts.  Come in costume (if you like) and participate in some of our seasonal activities — pumpkin painting\, a hay bale maze\, gunny sack races\, face painting\, scarecrow making\, hayrides\, and more!  The Rio HS Band plays at 11 am and the Prairie Thunder Cloggers dance at 1 pm.  The $10/vehicle admission covers all activities.  Food and gift shop items will be available at an additional cost.  Come for an hour or plan to stay all day\, there’s something for everyone!  All proceeds stay at the MacKenzie Center to support the facility and its programs!

DESCRIPTION:Friends volunteers are needed to help at the Pope & Young Rendezvous scheduled for June 10-12\, 2016\, 8 am – 3 pm each day.  This meeting will be to confirm assignments\, get updates\, and deal with any issues or questions.  Please let Don Lucke (heartshare@centurytel.net) know if you are able to help. \nFriends Responsibilities:\n \n1) Provide lunch service from maple storage building including sale of brats\, hot dogs\, chips\, drinks\, and dessert bars.\n2) Manage MacKenzie gift sales tent. Join with P&Y vendor tent or use our own. \n3) Provide & supply 5 – 6 water coolers and bottle filling stations located through out grounds. \n \nFriends Support Requested:\n\n1) Help direct parking cars & campers & possibly help mark lanes\, signs\, etc. – Expect greatest help needed first day.\n2) Miscellaneous helpers\, runners.

SUMMARY:Goat fence work day
DESCRIPTION:To all MacKenzie Friends and volunteers\,\n \nGoats have been used by a number of individuals and organizations (including the US Fish and Wildlife Service and US Forest Service) as a way to control invasive plant species.  The wildlife management team at MacKenzie will be trying this out soon.  To get ready\, a fence to keep people away from the area involved has been installed.  Now the people who own and handle the goats are scheduled to be at the MacKenzie Center with the electric fence and the goats on Monday May 23rd – we’ll meet at the lodge at 9:30 am to pull garlic mustard; then finish the fencing project and watch the goats start on the buckthorn.  Lunch will be provided.\n \nThe electric fence manufacturer’s web site describes “pushing” the fence posts into the ground\, so bring a heavy hammer if you have one.
