In 2002 a friend asked if I would be interested in joining the Friends of MacKenzie.  After learning more about the MacKenzie Center and the Friends organization, my wife, Patti, and I decided to join.  All the programs offering the chance to be outside were very inviting.  I previously served on the Board from 2002 to 2010 and was President in 2010.  Throughout my time as a volunteer at MacKenzie, maple has been my favorite activity.  I have been a guide and also the “upper” coordinator for the Maple Education Program.  Working on the finish carpentry for the Finishing House was very rewarding and any of the work details have also been of interest.  Working with youth as a Wildlife Tour guide has been fun, especially when I get the chance to work with those who have never had the opportunity to be outdoors.  In addition, I try to volunteer for just about any program the DNR sponsors at the MacKenzie Center.  What means most to me about being a member of the Friends are the friendships that have developed over the years.  We work well together and it is satisfying to see goals attained.
