Learn to be a Wildlife Area Docent/Volunteer Naturalist

June 2, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Dear MacKenzie Center Friends and Volunteers,

We have a great opportunity for anyone wanting to get more involved at the MacKenzie Center!

The MacKenzie Center Wildlife Team is seeking docents/volunteer naturalists for the summer season.  We would like to offer hands-on activities to visitors on Saturday afternoons at the MacKenzie Center. We hope to provide enhanced learning opportunities about the animals that are part of Wisconsin’s ecological community.  Docents will be stationed in the wildlife area with artifacts such as pelts and skulls to engage and educate guests.

Though we are open to your input in shaping the program, no experience is necessary as all docents/volunteer naturalists will need to participate in our training and orientation program.  What we do require is willingness to initiate interaction with children, teens and adults, the ability to work outside in summer weather, and availability approximately once per month from 12-2pm on Saturdays in June, July, August, and perhaps September.

Orientation will be held Saturday, June 2nd from 10am-1pm. Please meet in the Badger Den!

If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering please email Steve Ruscko, Wildlife Technician, at [email protected].  Steve, one of the recent additions to the wildlife team, is formerly the assistant curator at the Racine Zoo and will be coordinating this program.  He (and the rest of the team) is excited for the engagement that it can provide our guests – but only with your help!
